Leeds is a city with a rich coffee culture that’s been steadily growing in recent years. Whether you're a local or just visiting, there’s no shortage of fantastic cafés to explore. From quirky independent spots to trendy roasteries, the city offers something for every coffee lover. If you’re in search of a relaxing spot for a solo coffee date or a casual brunch with friends, one café that consistently stands out for me is IF on Call Lane.
Located in the heart of the city, IF has become my go-to place whenever I’m in the mood for great coffee and a welcoming atmosphere. Whether I’m after some alone time to unwind or looking to catch up with friends, this cosy café has proven to be the perfect setting. With its understated style, quality coffee, and comforting vibe, it offers something special—especially as we approach the colder, more festive time of year.
Why IF on Call Lane Stands Out
One of the things I love most about IF is its understated charm. Situated on the lively Call Lane, it’s a café that blends into its surroundings but also manages to capture your attention as soon as you step through the door. The space itself is beautifully designed and has a large open window
The coffee is, of course, exceptional. IF has a reputation for serving some of the best coffee in Leeds, whether you’re after a classic espresso, a velvety flat white, or a speciality brew. They take great care in sourcing quality beans, and you can tell by the taste of their drinks. If you’re someone who appreciates well-made coffee, you’ll find this place a real treat.
Perfect for a Solo Coffee Date
There are days when all you want is a bit of break from the grind and a warm drink to enjoy with your thoughts, and IF provides the ideal setting for just that. The café has a relaxed, low-key atmosphere, which makes it perfect for when you want to be alone but still in a public setting. Whether I’m reading, working on my laptop, or simply enjoying some quiet time, IFgives me the space to do all of this without feeling like I’m intruding in a busy, bustling café.
What I particularly love is how IF manages to create an intimate, welcoming vibe, even though it's located in the heart of a busy city. It’s the kind of place where you can just slip in, grab your coffee, and lose yourself in the moment. The baristas are friendly and give you some great drink and food choices, making it a smooth experience from the moment you walk in.
There's a relaxed pace that allows you to enjoy your coffee at your own leisure—something that is rare to find in a city centre. And as for the coffee itself—whether you're ordering a perfectly pulled espresso or a seasonal latte, (I recommend the Pumpkin Spice or Cinnamon Roll latte) the quality is always top-notch. It’s the sort of café where you can savour every sip, knowing that the drink was made for your taste buds pleasure.
A Great Space for Catch-ups with Friends
While IF is fantastic for a solo coffee break, it’s also a brilliant spot for brunch with friends. The menu is full of hearty yet delicious options that cater to a variety of tastes. Whether you’re after something light like avocado toast with a poached egg, or you’re in the mood for something a bit more indulgent, like eggs Benedict or fluffy pancakes, there’s no shortage of choice. The brunch menu is well-rounded and thoughtfully curated, so you and your friends are sure to find something that suits everyone’s tastes.
One of the standout features of IF is how they manage to keep the atmosphere lively yet laid-back. It’s a perfect spot for enjoying a relaxed meal with friends without feeling rushed. Whether you're catching up on life or discussing your latest adventures, the café’s ambience ensures that you can do so comfortably. Plus, the central location makes it easy to swing by for a quick coffee before heading to explore other parts of Leeds.
Cosy Season Vibes
As we move into the cosy season, there's something truly comforting about a café that creates the perfect environment to match the changing weather. IF does just that. The sleek interior, with its minimalist design and warm colour tones, makes it the perfect place to nestle in during colder months. The soft lighting, cosy seating, and stylish decor combine to create an ambience that feels welcoming and homely—ideal for sipping a hot drink while watching the world go by.
There’s a certain charm to IF that makes it feel like the perfect café to retreat to when the weather turns colder. The combination of good coffee, delicious food, and a cosy atmosphere makes it a favourite spot of mine during the autumn and winter months. It’s the sort of place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of Leeds, even if you’re just a stone’s throw from the city’s busiest streets.
While IF is undoubtedly my top choice, Leeds is home to many other great coffee spots worth exploring.
