Slam Dunk Festival 2019

June 05, 2019

Over the May bank holiday, I went to Slam Dunk Festival at the Temple of Newsam. It was my first time attending this one of a kind rock, alternative and punk-themed line up in Leeds and it was a day out I honestly won't forget.

During the day, I had the opportunity to see a range of fans which I more less fan girl from the age of 13.  Simple Plan, Neck Deep, Silverstein, Waterparks, New Found Glory were amongst the line up which I got the chance to see live on stage.

However, during the day, I took the opportunity to discover new artists. I thoroughly enjoyed watching The Bombpops open the Punk in Drublic stage as their harmonies, and rock n roll vibe was entertaining to watch. John Floreani's poetic raspy voice on the acoustic was another genre of music which captured my attention while I waited for my boyfriend to collect his beloved mac n cheese.

As a first timer at Slam Dunk Festival, I cannot describe how fun it was to go back and relive my teenage years by singing along to tracks which I've not listened too for nearly ten years. When I was standing in the crowd I was able to connect to the music and other fans as we all had significant memories to those tracks.

As you can see from my snaps, the majority of the day was sunny, but it wasn't long until the downpour hit us hard. With no ponchos or waterproofs to hand, I had to improvise and use my denim jacket as a temporary hood until I discovered a Co-op supermarket bag in my backpack to make a DIY hood.  Due to this, I missed the headliners along with Busted's secret performance - they were Y3K on the app.  None the less it was one of the best birthday gifts I've ever had.
